Inside KDTC
Who are we?
Our members are dog lovers!
Our club is dedicated to the training and well-being of dogs; we participate
in a wide variety of dog related activities. Most members own at least one dog and many
own many!
In addition to offering a wide range of dog training classes, taught by
member volunteers, KDTC participates in and supports numerous community
organizations, school groups and animal rescue units.
We also like having fun together and engage in many social functions
throughout the year; some including our dogs.
Our members have competed or participated in a wide range of dog sports
and activities. One of the most unusual is sled dog racing but we have
also raised Leader Dogs for the Blind, earned AKC conformation championships,
earned tracking titles in both the US and Canada and participated in
school and nursing home visitation. KDTC members have earned agility titles under
AKC and UKC rules. Many KDTC members are also active in dog rescue efforts.
Learn more about us by requesting a FREE issue of our
Canine Chronicle. The Canine Chronicle contains information about
club and member's activities as well as upcoming matches and trials
in the area, articles on training and other features of interest to
dog lovers. For your free issue, send your name and address to us
via email at KazooDog@aol.com
History
Founded in January 1975 and accredited by the American Kennel Club
in June 1978, the Kalamazoo Dog Training Club (KDTC) has grown from
fewer than 12 members to more than 70.
A not for profit organization, KDTC continues to meet its purposes
by conducting dog training classes that include agility, dog tricks and
conformation; educating and encouraging the public to practice
responsible dog ownership; and promoting cooperation and good
sportsmanship among member in the training and exhibiting of dogs.
Meetings
Meetings are held the first Monday every month (except December and July)
at 7:00 pm (board meeting 6:15) at the King-Westwood School, 1100 Nichols Rd., Kalamazoo (map).
Members of the public who support the purposes and aims of KDTC are
welcome to attend.
In December, we hold a Christmas party at the home of one of our members.
In July, we have a picnic at a local park with dog games and lots
of great potluck food.
Join Us!
Members of the public are eligible to join KDTC if they subscribe
to our mission statement, have attended two meetings and are
sponsored by a current member in good standing. Dues are modest
and benefits enormous; including subscription to the KDTC
Canine Chronicle, annual awards, free indoor training time and
the fellowship of like-minded people.
Membership types include single, family and associate. Single memberships
($20.00 annually) and family memberships ($30.00 annually) require active
participation in the Club, including attending at least three meetings per
year, serving on one or more committees, etc.; associate memberships ($30.00
annually) have no participation requirements and provide fewer Club benefits
(i.e., ineligible for Club awards, cannot serve as an officer or board
member, etc.). All membership types assure that each member will receive
preferential treatment in enrolling in Club workshops/seminars, early notice
regarding Club obedience classes, reduced payment/fees for some Club
activities, etc.
Those interested in joining KDTC can pick up a Membership Application at
classes at the County Center Building on Lake St., at a regularly scheduled
