Community Projects
|
We participate in and support dog related charities and projects in
the Kalamazoo community and around the country. KDTC has given money
to such diverse causes as Animal Meals on Wheels, 4-H Clubs, Animals
Best Friend, the Calhoun and Kalamazoo County Humane Societies,
various animal rescue groups and veterinary schools and foundations to
support research into canine genetics and disease. A few of our ongoing
efforts are highlighted below.

The Kalamazoo Humane Society |
|
Each May, the Kalamazoo Humane Society sponsors a Dog Walkathon as a
fund raiser. In addition to members who individually support the Society
as walkers, KDTC loans equipment, gives obedience demonstrations and
conducts the American Kennel Club Good Citizen Test during the Walkathon.
KDTC also donates obedience class gift certificates to the
Kalamazoo Humane Society for their fund raiser auction.

Dog Service Programs |
|
Dogs have proven to be a boon in aiding persons with various types
of disabilities. KDTC waives all class fees for puppies being raised to
support service dog programs (Leader Dogs for the Blind, Canine Companions
for Independence, Hearing Ear, Paws for a Cause).
Individual members of KDTC have been very active in raising such puppies
and/or in acting as mentors to families who raise them. The good start these
puppies receive greatly increases their chances of success in a career
helping people who need them.

Potpourri |
|
KDTC and its members assist the public in locating suitable family dogs,
providing information and answers to questions about dog problems and
dog care. KDTC members present canine programs at area schools,
nursing homes and hospitals. Many of them are also active in breed
rescue and can direct the public to appropriate rescue services.
By offering free and/or reduced rate classes,
KDTC supports puppy-raisers for service dogs and the adoption of dogs from
local humane societies.
